Myspace Information for Parents
You have seen it in the News, Police, and School Administrators have picked up on the fact that sexual predators are lurking in the back ground on Myspace. They are reading the blogs that children are posting, viewing their personal pictures and even trying to make formal arrangements in person.
It is a great thing that law enforcement and education systems are finally starting to recognize the dangers that children are facing by being a member of places like Myspace or Xanga.
Schools are taking the initiative by blocking popular social networking sites.
However, Law Enforcement and School Administrators even acknowledge that blogging and thing of that nature mostly occur at home. This is why computer tracking software is necessary.
All it takes a child molester to find out what your child is like is as simple as a mouse click. They may be able to find out things like where you’re child lives, what they look like, where they go to school, who they hang out with, and several other personal information they should not be seeing.
That is a frightening thought, but it is happening every day.
There are several things that you can do to protect your children from child molesters.
1) Sit them down and have a one on one talk with them about the consequences they face by posting personal information online.
2) Ask them if they would walk up to a complete stranger and tell them their most personal thought. Of course they would not do that and they should understand that they are NOT as anonymous online as they think.
3) Ask them if they have ever been approached in any kind of inappropriate manner online.
4) Install computer tracking software that will track every move they make online.
The fourth protection measure can be handled two different ways.
You may not want to tell them about it because you want to find out exactly what they are doing when you are not around. Or you may have other reasons for not telling them that tracking software is on the computer.
However, some parents may want to let their children know they are being watched. There is nothing wrong with that either, it may show that you trust your child, but at the same time are not going to take any chances with their online safety. Also, telling them may actually make them think twice about what they do on the computer.
Regardless if you decide to inform your children or not, you really need to get a tracking software installed on the computer. One that will record what is most important to you. However, do not limit your tracking software to just one thing. If you do that, you may be missing a lot of information that could impact the well being of your child.
Find a computer tracking software that can at least record the following.
1) Email from places like Myspace, Hotmail, Yahoo, and SMTP/POP3.
2) Chat and instant messaging from the popular chat services like MSN, AOL, Yahoo, Trillian, MIRC, ICQ and java based chat.
3) A keystroke logger that tracks ANY key that has been typed (including passwords)
4) Peer to Peer Activity (Kazaa, Limewrie, Gnucleus just to name a few)
5) All web sites visited
6) ANYTHING else that can be done on a computer.
We have spent a long time finding the right computer tracking software and we have found one company that stands above the rest.
That company is SpectorSoft.
SpectorSoft has a complete line of computer tracking software that records EVERYTHING that is done on the computer that you need to monitor. Spector Pro would be the BEST solution for parents that have frequent access to their kid’s computers.
However, eBlaster may be more appropriate for parents that do not have frequent access to the computers that they are monitoring. eBlaster will record everything that is being done on the computer and email to you via activity reports.
